HOMAN MACHUCA / BIO
At sixteen, Homan Machuca began his career in broadcasting as a recording assistant at Nuevo Continente of Bogotá, where he later advanced to General Manager. Founded in Colombia, Nuevo Continente of Bogotá was the first evangelical Christian radio station. He also worked at Todelar, one of the largest radio networks in Colombia, where he became the Director of Radio Continental.
Homan studied at Colegio Superior de Telecomunicaciones and at Universidad de América in Bogotá, where he earned his degree in Journalism and Communications.
In 1984, Homan relocated to the United States, where he worked as a journalist for La Mágica 1220 News. He then served as the News Director for Noticias 11Q Radio, Cosmos 1270 Radio, Cadena Fantástica Radio, Viva 1160 AM Radio, and Univision Channel 63 in Orlando, Florida.
Homan was the first Latino journalist to broadcast via satellitefor NASA space shuttle launches, in collaboration with United Latin Television, reaching stations across Latin America and Europe.
Awards & Recognitions
- 2024 – The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences honored Homan Machuca with the Silver Circle Emmy Award, one of the most distinguished recognitions for his outstanding and prolific career in television.
- 2019 – Recognized by the U.S. Congress, receiving an acknowledgment from the House of Representatives as a distinguished journalist in Florida. His biography was officially read in the House of Representatives.
- 2014 – Won an Emmy Award for his investigative reporting in Health and Science News with “Vida en Medio de la Muerte”.
- 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2011, 2019 – Recipient of the Paoli Award.
- 2008 – Awarded “Professional of the Year” with the Don Quijote Award.
- 1986 – For his coverage of the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster on January 28, 1986, he received the “Reportaje del Año” award from United Press International (UPI). Before the Challenger disaster, he had been selected as a journalist eligible for space travel.
Career & Contributions
In December 2022, Homan Machuca retired from NBC-Telemundo after almost 23 years, where he worked as a director and producer for Telenoticias Xtra and Enfoque, programs focused on socioeconomic, political, and community analysis. He also served as an anchor for Telenoticias Orlando and was a daily reporter for Noticias Telemundo 3.
Now, he is relaunching his company, HMAC Productions, which he originally founded in 1995 under the name HMAC Communications. The company specializes in optimizing and growing businesses through tailored strategies, data-driven insights, and a relentless commitment to success, helping organizations achieve sustainable growth and unlock their full potential in today’s competitive landscape.

His expertise in broadcast content preparation and live video production & streaming has allowed him to lead major projects that shape modern journalism and storytelling. He remains dedicated to producing high-quality documentaries, ensuring that impactful stories reach diverse audiences worldwide.
In addition to his professional endeavors, Homan continues to work as a reporter and voice-over artist for organizations such as National Geographic, Discovery, and others. He also actively volunteers in the Hispanic community, collaborating with organizations such as COAMED, a group of doctors from Orlando, Florida, who travel internationally to provide medical care and surgical assistance. Machuca reports on and documents these medical missions, raising awareness of their impact.
He is also an active member of Whipping Childhood Cancer, an organization dedicated to supporting children diagnosed with cancer. He has served on its Board of Directors for five years, contributing to initiatives aimed at improving the lives of young patients and their families.
